The version of the McLaren MP4/2C fielded at the 1986 Portuguese Grand Prix at the Estoril circuit represents a piece of Formula 1 history, as it was the only occasion when the team abandoned its traditional white-and-orange livery to adopt a special white-and-yellow color scheme. This color variant was designed to promote the launch of "Marlboro Lights" cigarettes on the European market. Powered by the same 1.5-liter TAG Porsche twin-turbo V6 producing approximately 850 hp in race trim, the car was driven by Keke Rosberg, who qualified in seventh position before being forced to retire during the 32nd lap of the race due to a mechanical problem with the suspension.
This 1:43 scale collectible reproduction produced by Minichamps celebrates the iconic and unusual yellow and white "Marlboro Lights" graphic scheme, applied with opaque paint and decals. The die-cast metal construction maintains the proportions of the NACA side ducts and the high rear wing specific to medium-to-high downforce circuits. The open cockpit displays the figure of the 1982 world champion complete with pad-printed seatbelts and a detailed steering wheel. The soft rubber tires fit period-correct perforated forged rims.
